Less is More - the basic idea!

The Basic Idea for AngBarato.Com was to be a simple and cheap way for buyers and sellers to get in touch with each other.

The first thought was more like that Manila Newspaper that allows you 80 Characters to sell whatever!

Of course, some people had a vision of being a Philippine E-Bay (there was none back then!).

The site was created by a student, Paul Javier and in time .... well, hackers found world wide security issues in servers, and server admins fixed these problems, it also broke A-B-C - and there was no easy repair in sight!

Likewise, a small group of students and friends also had fun adding additional "features" to A-B-C!  Although they COULD do it, no one really stopped long enough to ask if we SHOULD do it!

So...

Now we are thinking that LESS is MORE!  We want to get back to the ABC's of A-B-C and our focus on letting people contact each other to "Buy and Sell on the Internet!" (That was our first slogan!)

The current projects...

1) The login / password program at A-B-C was so easy to crack that I heard about it from Cebu students that used it to practice their hacker skills!  The Login will now be handled by the SMF forum with the same user name and password pairs as the Kubo 4 Community Forum.  That Solve Password Security. This is Completed!

2) Electronic contact will be moved completely to the SMF Forum.  This will include:

Private Messages:  Completed
ICQ: Completed
AIM:    Completed
MSN: Completed
YIM:    Completed
Email: (Soon it will be a form mail for security) Soon
Website: Completed

To this we will add:
Cell Number: Soon
Land Line Number: Soon

3) The Photo Security Issues must be solved. This is a major job to tackle!

4) The A-B-C Profile will be modified to concern itself more with location for adding search features later. Future

We Hope that we can make an AngBarato.Com for each location where we put a Kubo 4 Communication.  The concept is to be able to choose your location and A-B-C should work like it is exclusively for that area. (This is still way down the road).

In Order to do this we had to make some tough decisions...

1) The ABC Forums Are Gone!  ABC now uses a section of the Kubo 4 Forum for things related to the ABC site, instructions, New Ideas, etc. - this is actually better!  Plus the Kubo 4 Forums have room for other Forums, like the Dumaguete Guitar Players Forum!

2) Feedback Forms Are Gone! Feed back to the seller is now more private and an be handled by:

Private Forum Messages:
ICQ:
AIM:
MSN:
YIM:
Email:
Website:
Cell Number:
Land Line Number:

3) Photos are also a big problem!  We almost took it back to text only, but I like a photo as much at the next guy!  We just need to make the system more secure. I also like how the site tells you went there is a photo before you open the posting!  We plan to keep this... We just need to clean up the code and that may mean a few changes in the way we do things.

So that is the basic idea.  The site is functional again, even though it is still buggy.  Oh yeah, there are hundreds of coding errors to bring this up to XHTML 1.0 Transitional Level (The Lowest Current Level on the Internet today).

I am open to ideas and suggestions for computer code improvements!  Even Enhancements.

I am not open for sour grapes about the way it was or why was something you liked changed.  Sorry, we are a basic website about buying and selling on the Internet!

We hope you enjoy The New More Practical Ang Barato dot Com!
